Controversy Over Oil Drilling in the Pacific Palisades

Share

The California Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Occidental Petroleum Corp., enabling it to drill for oil in the Pacific Palisades (Part I, Feb. 26).

No Oil Inc. is attempting to get an initiative on the ballot so that the voters of California can decide whether or not this oil drilling should be permitted alongside Pacific Coast Highway.

We all remember the great inconvenience when Pacific Coast Highway was closed down for a minimum of two months, badly affecting the homeowners in Malibu, as well as the thousands of commuters who travel along the highway each day.

We should all have the right to vote against the oil drilling by Occidental and take it out of the political arena. It appears that millions of Southern Californians will agree that Pacific Coast Highway should remain open and not be subject to possible landslides that could be caused by the drilling efforts of Occidental.

We applaud the efforts of No Oil to get the issue on the ballot and I am personally looking forward to exercising my vote as a no for oil drilling along PCH.
