The State : BART May Get Extensions

Share

A $2.1-billion compromise plan by Bay Area congressional leaders could bring rapid transit service closer to San Francisco International Airport and extend a commuter train line into San Francisco’s financial district. The plan would expand service by the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) district to within one mile of the airport and to the East Bay communities of North Concord, West Pittsburg, Castro Valley, Dublin, Irvington and Warm Springs. The plan would also bring Caltrain commuter trains to a downtown San Francisco terminal, instead of another station several blocks away. Legislators had been deadlocked over seemingly conflicting transit goals, but said the compromise will give equal priority to all the transit projects.
