U.S. District Judge Rya Zobel set a Jan. 9, 1989, trial date in Polaroid Corp.’s patent infringement claim against Eastman Kodak Co. Zobel ordered pretrial evidence in the 12-year-old case be presented to the court on July 27. In 1985, Zobel ruled that Kodak had infringed on seven of about 150 Polaroid patents on instant cameras and film, and in January, 1986, he barred Rochester, N.Y.-based Kodak from the instant photography business, pioneered by Polaroid. Polaroid is seeking $5.7 billion in lost profits and interest from Kodak for violating the patents.
