Two men were given plaques and rewards for helping to retrieve some of the estimated $771,000 that fell from an armored truck traveling from San Francisco to Oakland on March 8. Daniel Higginbotham, a postal worker, was rewarded with $10,000, and Luis Lopez, a television repairman, was given $2,000 by Oakland-based Loomis Armored Inc. for minimizing the company’s losses when a crate containing bags of cash accidentally tumbled out of the truck. Higginbotham was credited with snatching bags of money away from would-be looters and guarding the crate until police arrived. Lopez recovered two bags totaling $40,100 and turned them in to the firm.
