A La Puente man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after his motorboat struck a surfer in the ocean off Huntington State Beach, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

Guillermo Joseph Hernandez, 30, was arrested Sunday after he steered his 18 1/2-foot powerboat off course and struck David Peters, 20, of Huntington Beach, Lt. Bob Rivas said. Peters was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released, Rivas said.

Hernandez was trying to return to Alamitos Bay in Long Beach from Catalina Island about 3:30 p.m. but apparently lost his sense of direction and ended up in the water near Brookhust Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, Rivas said.
