Larry Robinson scored with 7:53 left Monday night to help the Montreal Canadiens extend their undefeated streak to 14 games with a 3-3 tie against the Calgary Flames at Montreal.

The game was a matchup of the National Hockey League’s two best teams, and Calgary maintained its one-point edge, 97-96, over Montreal. The club that finishes with the best mark will earn $200,000 and the home-ice advantage as long as it is in the playoffs.

The Canadiens are 12-0-2 in their last 14 games; Calgary is 5-0-2 in its last seven.

Gary Suter’s goal gave Calgary a 3-2 lead in the third period, and Joe Mullen added two goals for the Flames.

Montreal’s Claude Lemieux tied the score, 2-2, at 6:26 of the second period. Ryan Walter fed Lemieux, who shot between goaltender Mike Vernon’s legs.

The Canadiens, who played without leading goal scorer Stephane Richer (sore hand), defensemen Rick Green (back) and Petr Svoboda (hip), lost the services of forward John Kordic, who suffered a leg injury in the first period.

New York Islanders 5, Minnesota 1--Kelly Hrudey made 33 saves, and Brent Sutter ignited a four-goal first-period outburst as the Islanders beat the North Stars at Bloomington, Minn., and moved into second place in the Patrick Division.

The Islanders, with 80 points, are one point ahead of the third-place Philadelphia Flyers and one point behind the first-place Washington Capitals.

Minnesota missed a chance to pull into a tie with Toronto for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Norris Division. The Maple Leafs have 50 points to 48 for the North Stars, who will play five of their remaining six games on the road.
