Local News in Brief : Used Copter for Fire Dept.
Los Angeles County supervisors agreed Tuesday to spend $2.6 million to buy a used helicopter for the county Fire Department as part of a replacement program to replenish its fleet of aging aircraft.
The board, in a 4-1 vote, approved the proposal by Forester and Fire Warden John Englund that the county purchase a 1981 twin-engine Bell 412 helicopter to use in firefighting and other emergencies.
The board is awaiting a study by Englund and the Department of Health Services on the feasibility of expanding the use of helicopters to transport critically injured patients to trauma care systems and whether to purchase a separate helicopter strictly for emergency medical care.
