51 Smuggled Aliens Arrested
Fifty-one illegal aliens smuggled into the country from Mexico to sell frozen fruit bars and ice cream from pushcarts were arrested in the City of Commerce after midnight and held for deportation today, authorities said.
The aliens, most of whom told authorities that they had been brought into the country in the last eight to 10 days, were sleeping on the floor of the warehouse where the carts and products were stored, said Ron Rogers, spokesman for the Immigration and Naturalization Service. They were discovered by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies called to the building east of downtown Los Angeles by an anonymous tipster who said he had been beaten up there.
