The Long Beach City College Board of Trustees has appointed retired aerospace worker Donald M. Weaver to fill a seat left vacant by the death of board President Donald Scott.

Weaver, 62, is a former member and president of the Centinela Valley Union High School District board, where he served from 1965 to 1982. Weaver’s other school-related service includes a stint as past president and executive board member of the Los Angeles County School Board Trustees Assn.

The City College board picked Weaver from 21 candidates during its regular meeting Tuesday night, according to Tracy O’Connell, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Community College District.

Weaver will serve for two years on the five-member board. (A sixth member is a student with a voice but no vote on the board.) Three other seats will be filled in the April 12 election.
