Concrete Ribbon Was Not the Answer

Share

In response to Don McKenzie’s letter of March 13, I cannot believe in this day and age anyone would bring up the Crosstown Freeway as an answer to a traffic problem. Imagine 14 lanes plus two shoulder lanes running parallel to the San Diego Freeway, three miles apart. We should give Jan Hall a tremendous vote of thanks for saving 8,000 homes and our city from being disfigured by this ribbon of concrete.

It might be noted that Hall stopped this freeway before it was chic to get involved in environmental matters. She wrote the letters, made the telephone calls, spoke to groups--a tremendous effort and all on her own initiative. The people thanked her by electing her councilwoman. This is involvement--this is who we need as mayor in our great city.
