Three Boys Removed From Cult

Share

Three boy cousins were taken from a controversial religious commune in Newhall today and returned to their fathers in Orange County, sheriff’s deputies said. The fathers had obtained a court order to have their children removed from the Tony and Susan Alamo Foundation, where the boys were living with their mothers.

Two of the children, ages 4 and 9, are Robert Miller’s sons. The other, 9, is Carey Miller’s son. The Millers are brothers and had been members of the cult until they were excommunicated. Their wives obtained divorces and remarried, officials said. The Alamo Foundation, which has about 100 members in Newhall, originated in the 1960s and earned a reputation for spreading the Gospel among young dropouts roaming the streets of Hollywood who came to be popularly known as “Jesus Freaks.”
