An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a youth in Southeast San Diego on Wednesday morning, police said.

The victim, Anthony White, 17, was walking to school about 7 a.m. when he was shot in the neck, back, shoulder, arm and hand, police spokesman Dave Cohen said.

White, of the 700 block of 41st Street, was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he died about 3:30 p.m., Deputy Coroner Willian Leard said.

About an hour after the shooting, Manuel Cass turned himself in to the Southeast police station and was arrested after questioning, Cohen said.

Police said a .25-caliber automatic handgun was used in the shooting because a shell casing for that type of weapon was found at the scene.

Cass was being sought for questioning after White told officers that Cass had shot him, Cohen said.

Cohen said that the motive for the shooting was still being investigated. No weapon has been recovered.
