Local News in Brief : Candidates Debate Set

In anticipation of Lawndale’s April 12 election, the Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a candidates debate at 7 p.m. Thursday in the council chambers at City Hall, 14717 Burin Ave.

Twelve candidates for four City Council seats to be decided in the election have been invited to participate, according to chamber manager Jerry Enis.

Running for a two-year term as mayor are incumbent Sarann Kruse, Councilman Larry Rudolph, who has two years remaining in his four-year term, Nancy J. Marthens, a business data analyst, and Ronald Maxwell, an aerospace production scheduler who is president of the Lawndale Jaycees.

Five candidates are running for two four-year terms: Councilmen Terry W. Birdsall and Harold E. Hofmann, Carol Norman, a Lawndale Planning Commission member who is a housing administrator for the City of Hawthorne, office manager Virginia Rhodes and paralegal Ralph C. Williams.

Candidates for a two-year term are Councilman Dan M. McKenzie, homemaker Tina Zarro and Herman Weinstein, a flight engineer and real estate agent.
