Fidel Bassa of Colombia survived a late rally by Dave McAuley to score a unanimous 12-round decision and retain his World Boxing Assn. flyweight title at Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Bassa, who knocked McAuley out in the same ring 11 months ago, had the challenger on the floor in the ninth round after dominating the fight.

McAuley, well behind on points, stormed back in the next two rounds as he went for a knockout, and shook Bassa with several powerful head shots.

But he was too tired to sustain the attack in the 12th and the 26-year-old champion stayed out of trouble to win the unanimous decision from the three judges.
