More than a third of the non-playing major league baseball jobs that opened in the last year were filled by minorities and women, the commissioner’s office reported.
Of 542 non-playing jobs that opened with the 26 major league teams, 180 were filled by minorities to account for 33%, and 23% were filled by women.
The commissioner’s office released the figures two days after the Angels named Cookie Rojas, a Cuban, their manager.
Rojas is the only minority serving as a manager or general manager of a major league team. In the last year, however, some minority representatives have turned down such offered positions.
