Local News in Brief : Deputy in Fraud Case Pleads No Contest
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy pleaded no contest Thursday to grand theft after being accused of fraudulently collecting about $2,000 more than he was entitled to in an insurance settlement.
Deputy Arthur Pullen, 31, could receive up to three years in prison when he is sentenced April 22, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Steven E. Weiss.
Pullen entered his plea in downtown Municipal Court. Weiss said the deputy was accused of collecting $2,200 last summer from the Royal Insurance Co. of Los Angeles for damage by vandals on a 12-foot-wide, plastic, above-ground pool behind his Agoura Hills home. Weiss said the pool suffered about $200 damage.
Pullen submitted his claim to the company on an altered police report, which said the pool was 28 feet wide, Weiss said.
Pullen has been suspended without pay from the Sheriff’s Department and is expected to be disciplined further, Weiss said.
