Woman, 94, Killed, 2 Others Injured in Hit-Run Accident

A 94-year-old woman was killed and her daughter and a man were injured by a hit-and-run driver, who leaped from his damaged car and ran away, Los Angeles police said Sunday.

Antonia Pena was riding with her daughter, a friend and two young children on Lorena Street in Boyle Heights at 9:40 a.m. Saturday when a car ran a stop sign on Atlantic Street and crashed into their car, Officer Neal Person said.

Pena died at the scene. Her daughter, Juanita Muro, 58, suffered cuts and bruises and was held for observation at County-USC Medical Center, Person said. Alfonso Aranda, 59, was treated for minor injuries and released, he said. Two children, ages 2 and 4, were not injured in the crash.

Two men jumped out of their wrecked Chevrolet El Camino and ran away after the crash, Person said.
