Local News in Brief : 3 Shot in Gang Attack
A man was killed and his two brothers wounded shortly after noon Tuesday in what authorities described as a gang-related shooting in La Puente.
Sheriff’s investigators said Hipolito Cornel was driving a car west on Temple Street with his two brothers, Joe, 23, and Ricky, 22.
As Cornel turned onto Willow Street, the passenger in a white car that had been following them began firing a handgun without warning, Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman Roger Hom said.
The three brothers jumped from the car and ran. Before they could escape, however, the gunman fatally wounded Hipolito Cornel, Hom said. Joe Cornel was shot in the arm, and Ricky Cornel was wounded in the left ankle.
Hom said the Cornels are all well-known gang members in the La Puente area.
