A compact car carrying students from Brigham Young University collided head-on with a lumber truck on a road near Victorville, killing three of the students and seriously injuring two others. The car’s driver, Ross Evan Williams, 18, and two passengers, Daniel James Williams, 20, and Karen Joyce Hanks, 19, died at the scene, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Jim Roden. Passengers Rebecca Ann Burraston, 18, and Johnson Chun-Sing Tong, 22, suffered major injuries. Burraston, of Tucson, was in fair condition at Loma Linda University Medical Center, while Tong, of Walnut Creek, was in critical condition at San Bernardino County Medical Center. The Williamses, presumed to be brothers, were from Calabasas, and Hanks was from Fullerton. Roden said the driver of the Hayward Lumber Co. truck, Glenn Paul Davis, 22, swerved into opposing traffic to avoid rear-ending slow-moving cars ahead of him. Davis suffered a minor scratch, Roden said.
