Car Hits Loose Trailer; 1 Dead

Share

A woman traveling approximately 80 m.p.h. southbound on the Harbor Freeway early today was killed when her small foreign car smashed into a trailer which had become detached from its rig, according to the California Highway Patrol.

“We don’t hear of too many accidents like this,” said Officer Ron Brack, explaining that the pin which holds the trailer to the tractor apparently broke or became unhitched, and the trailer rolled to a stop in the two inside lanes of the freeway north of Century Boulevard in South Central Los Angeles about 12:30 a.m. The woman, following behind the truck, may not have seen the trailer because once unhitched, it would not have had lights, Brack said. The name of the woman has not been released pending notification of relatives.
