Trail Blazers Beat Clippers for the 12th Straight Time

Clyde Drexler and Kevin Duckworth scored 25 points each, leading the Portland Trail Blazers to a 141-119 National Basketball Assn. victory over the Clippers Tuesday night.

The victory was the 12th straight for Portland over the Clippers, the Trail Blazers’ longest winning streak ever over one team.

A layup by Mike Woodson, who scored 11 of his 29 points in the third quarter, cut a 16-point deficit to 95-90 with 3:03 left in the period.

But the Trail Blazers outscored the Clippers, 12-2, in the closing minutes of the quarter, with Drexler scoring 9 of those 12, and Portland led, 110-92, going into the final 12 minutes. Drexler totaled 17 points in the third quarter.

Portland extended its lead to 121-97 in the first three minutes of the fourth period as Kiki Vandeweghe, playing in only his second game after missing 17 with a back injury, scored 4 of his 19 during the 11-5 spurt.

Benoit Benjamin had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers, and Darnell Valentine added 18 points. Maurice Lucas had 17 for Portland.

Portland shot 64% in the first half, building a 75-63 lead at halftime behind Duckworth’s 17 points.
