Panel OK’s Bid to Create Position of City Architect
The San Diego City Council Rules Committee voted Wednesday to recommend that a position of city architect be created within the Planning Department.
The idea was proposed by Mayor Maureen O’Connor in her State of the City address in January.
The city architect, whose position would be second to that of the planning director, would be responsible for improving the architecture and design of civic construction projects, overseeing the quality of design of private projects, and working to preserve the character of the city’s historic areas.
