A 20-day-old Canadian boy born with a fatal heart defect was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center to undergo a heart transplant, a spokeswoman said. The boy, known as Baby Timothy, suffers from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a fatal underdevelopment of the heart. Medical center officials would not reveal when surgery was scheduled. The San Bernardino County medical center has pioneered heart transplants for infants. Thirteen infants have received replacement hearts at the hospital since 1985. Ten have survived.
