Floor Action:

Drugs: Passed and sent to the Senate on a 72-1 vote a bill (AB 2700) by Assemblywoman Lucy Killea (D-San Diego) to outlaw imitations of methamphetamines and other dangerous drugs now sold on the streets. Committee Action:

Asbestos: The Assembly Labor Committee approved a bill (AB 3713) by Assemblyman Lloyd Connelly (D-Sacramento) to require employers to post warning signs in areas where workers may come in contact with asbestos to inform them of the possible cancer risk. Senate

Committee Action:

AIDS: The Senate Education Committee approved a bill (SB 2840) by Sen. Gary Hart (D-Santa Barbara) to require school districts to teach junior and high school students about AIDS. An 8-0 vote sent the bill to the Appropriations Committee. It is a milder version of a measure vetoed by the governor last year.

Automobile Insurance: The Senate Insurance Committee approved a bill (SB 1972) by Sen. Alan Robbins (D-Van Nuys) to require auto insurance companies to give discounts of at least 10% to customers who provide written proof they use public transportation instead of their cars to get to and from work.
