College Spring Sports : 7th-Inning Rally Propels Canyons to Record Win

Share

The College of the Canyons baseball team won its school-record 18th consecutive game with a 5-1 Western State Conference victory Thursday over visiting Glendale.

The previous mark of 17 was set last year, but Canyons Coach Len Mohney said, “Those records don’t mean anything. I’d trade both those records for a state championship.”

The score was tied, 1-1, after six innings, but Canyons’ Ernie Perez led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and, two outs later, Billy Picketts walked and Ray Palagyi had an infield hit to set the stage for Chris Joy’s two-out, two-run single. Mike Bible singled home two more runs in the inning.
