Police Investigate San Ysidro Killing
San Diego homicide detectives are investigating the Saturday death of a 25-year-old man who was found shot in the chest at a San Ysidro apartment complex, authorities said.
Joel Valverde, who lived on Winchester Street in the Paradise Hills area, was pronounced dead at 12:46 a.m. at UC San Diego Medical Center’s trauma unit, San Diego Police Sgt. Anne O’Dell said.
She said officers responding to a radio call just before midnight found Valverde, described as unemployed, lying on the ground inside the apartment complex, in the 2000 block of Alaquinas Drive.
There was no suspect in custody Saturday, and no known motive for the shooting, O’Dell said. Witnesses were being interviewed by detectives.
