AVELLINO, Italy — A traffic accident victim riding unattended in the back of an ambulance fell out onto the road and had to hitchhike the rest of the way to the hospital, Italian newspapers reported today.
The reports said Carmine Urciuolo, 23, and the stretcher on which he lay fell out of the ambulance because the driver had not correctly closed the rear doors of the vehicle. Not until the ambulance reached the hospital did the driver realize that the patient was not there. Urciuolo arrived soon after and was treated for minor injuries.
