Calling them “two fighters,” President Reagan praised the University of Kansas Jayhawks and the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech for overcoming difficulties in winning NCAA basketball championships.

Reagan congratulated team members during a joint ceremony in the White House Rose Garden.

Reagan also took note of an announcement by Kansas Coach Larry Brown last week that he intends to remain at KU and not accept the UCLA coaching job.

To mixed laughter and applause, the President joked: “I know Jayhawk fans everywhere are rejoicing that next year I’m the only one moving back to California.”
