Local News in Brief : Earthquake Plan Unveiled
- Share via
Century City businessmen Tuesday unveiled a plan to prepare the area’s 40,000 workers and tenants to cope with a major earthquake.
The plan was assembled over the past two years by the building managers and the Southern California Earthquake Preparedness Project. Among other things, it calls for trained disaster teams on each floor of each building and encourages companies to maintain pantries stocked with first-aid kits, blankets, water and battery-operated radios.
While Century City’s 10 modern high-rise buildings are considered among the most structurally earthquake-safe in the city, a severe temblor could cause significant damage inside the buildings, explained Joel Baker, director of the Century City Chamber of Commerce.
