Tennis Shoe Stuck in Throat Kills Hippo

BUENOS AIRES —
Buenos Aires zoo director Luis Lopez said today a hippopotamus died at the city’s zoo, the victim of a tennis shoe stuck in his throat.
Lopez said the animal showed signs Thursday of suffering, repeatedly banging his head against the ground and the bars of his cage. The hippopotamus died a short time later. Lopez said the zoo has had constant problems with visitors throwing objects at animals.
