Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Get-Out-the-Vote Push Focuses on the Young

The start of a countywide drive to interest 18-year-old students in voting will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Anaheim Education Center, 501 Crescent Way.

The week of April 18-22 has been designated “You’ve Got the Power: Register and Vote.” Statewide co-sponsors are Secretary of State March Fong Eu and Supt. of Public Instruction Bill Honig.

The event Monday is being co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters, Anaheim Union High School District and the County Board of Supervisors. Polling booths and voting machines will be displayed to students.

League of Women Voters officials said that although 18-year-olds have had the right to vote since 1971, surveys show that nationally two-thirds of all 18-to-20-year-olds do not vote.
