$2.9-Billion City Budget Offered
Mayor Tom Bradley unveiled a $2.9-billion city budget proposal today that earmarks 60% for public safety, including more funding for police and paramedic services.
Bradley said his spending program, which will now be considered by the City Council, is based on a “robust local economy” and would require no new taxes. “Temporary” taxes imposed several years ago, however, would probably remain in place, Bradley said. The package proposes adding 250 officers to the police force, boosting it to an all-time high of 7,750 officers.
