Missing Retarded Man Found in L.A.
A 32-year-old mentally retarded man who wandered away from Disneyland last Friday was discovered at County-USC Medical Center, where he had been staying since Saturday when police found him in the restroom of a downtown Los Angeles gas station.
Medical Center staff members recognized the man, Cornell Emmet Douglass, from pictures in the news media. They alerted police, who notified the man’s family in the San Bernardino suburb of Muscoy on Monday.
Police were unsure how Douglass, who has the intelligence of a 5-year-old, ended up in Los Angeles. He had been touring Disneyland with fellow students from a special school for the handicapped when he became separated from the group.
