A South Korean farmer wants compensation for the loss of 70 minks and seven foxes he says were suffocated when police fired tear gas to quell a student demonstration, Yonhap News Agency said Wednesday.

The agency said Chang Kwang Sok, 32, who owns a farm near a college in the southwestern city of Chonju, demanded compensation of $13,500 in letters sent to the city police chief and the college dean. Chang said that besides the deaths, many of his remaining 28 foxes and 230 minks suffered from “exhaustion” or had spontaneously aborted fetuses.
