Share

A brazen burglar who steals money out of his victims’ purses and wallets as they sleep in bed just inches away is prowling the city’s south side, and police are seeking the public’s help in capturing him.

“He’s doing a pretty good job,” said Rich McMillen, spokesman for the Buena Park Police Department. “We want to warn the public and get him as fast as possible.”

The burglar, described as about 6 feet tall with a dark complexion, always strikes between 2 and 6 a.m., McMillen said. Since Feb. 11, the prowler has slipped into at least 14 homes in an area bounded by Lincoln Avenue, La Palma Avenue, Western Avenue and Valley View Street, he said.

No one has been hurt during the burglaries, McMillen said, but in his last two strikes, the man has awakened women by touching their legs.

The burglar has taken as much as $300 in cash from his sleeping victims, police said. He usually enters through unlocked front doors or unlocked windows and makes his escape on foot. Police have no suspects.

“Please, don’t go to bed with your doors and windows open,” McMillen said.

Anyone with information on the bedtime burglar is asked to call the Buena Park police at (714) 521-9352.
