Two 19-year-old men who were stopped for a traffic violation early Friday morning were arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary when one of the men opened his car’s trunk, revealing items missing from an El Toro delicatessen, authorities said.

James David Howard of El Toro and Mark Lewis Munroe of Mission Viejo were being held at the Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, said Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Olson.

Olson said burglars broke into Wally’s Deli at 1704 Lambert Road around 3 a.m. and made off with several cases of beer, some deli meats and several cartons of cigarettes. An hour and a half later, Deputy William Crutchfield spotted Howard and Munroe driving along Marguerite Parkway in a yellow Datsun with no license plates, Olson said.

Crutchfield stopped the car and asked Howard where the license plates were. Howard opened the trunk, Olson said, and Crutchfield saw the deli items.
