Local News in Brief : Building Review Is Approved

Share

To determine how many construction projects in Lawndale have received Planning Department approval despite failure to comply with Lawndale’s zoning law and building codes, the City Council has decided to hire a consultant to review outstanding projects.

The council voted Tuesday to spend up to $13,000 for a consultant whose job would include auditing all pending city permits and detailing those issued in error.

Apparent mismanagement of the Planning Department led to the city issuing permits for projects that do not meet the city’s regulations on parking and setback requirements, said City Atty. David J. Aleshire in an investigation concluded last fall.

The city’s new planning director, James Arnold, reported that the city has in progress 64 commercial projects, 8 industrial developments, 69 residential projects with a total of 170 dwelling units, and 147 applications for additions.
