We cruised by rail from Los Angeles to New Orleans through Rod Pick’s Sentimental Rail Journeys, P.O. Box 4574, Thousand Oaks, Calif. 91360, telephone (805) 499-9306, in a privately owned and restored railroad lounge and sleeping car.
The service by Pick and his crew are without equal--friendly, courteous and entertaining. My wife and I and 18 others found the trip to be a true vacation. Our hotel was the largest in the French Quarter. A city tour, boat ride on the Mississippi River, a swamp tour and our free time were all pleasurable. Also, we visited three river-front plantations. Although we had previously visited New Orleans, we became better acquainted this time with its charm and history.
