Local News in Brief : Man Held as Fake Doctor
A felony charge of child molestation was filed Friday against the music director of USC’s classical radio station after he was arrested for allegedly posing as a doctor and molesting an 8-year-old girl at her home near the campus, authorities said.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles district attorney’s office said David Jay Letterman, 39, an employee at KUSC-FM since 1984, was taken into custody on Thursday by detectives who tracked him down after the girl’s mother copied the license number of his car when the incident occurred April 19.
The mother, whose identity was not revealed, told investigators that Letterman posed as a physician and came to her South-Central Los Angeles home, asking to examine her 8-year-old daughter. The mother allowed the examination, but then grew suspicious and called police.
Bail was set at $5,000 for Letterman, who was still in custody late Friday.
