Local News in Brief : Countywide : Forum Targets Woes of Suburban Growth

Share

Regional growth policies and efforts to solve traffic, housing and air pollution problems will be the topics of a public forum Saturday at Golden West College in Huntington Beach.

The forum is one in a series being held throughout the Southland by the Southern California Assn. of Governments, the six-county regional planning agency that includes Orange County as a member. The forum is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Called “Choices for Action,” the series of workshops deal with four growth management scenarios, or “emerging futures,” each with its own traffic, housing and air pollution trade-offs.

“Frustrations with traffic, poor air quality, inadequate housing and other intrusions are increasingly affecting our daily lives,” said SCAG President Don Griffin, who is a Buena Park city councilman. “Too often the public feels that no one is even seeking solutions. Consequently, SCAG has worked hard to pull many diverse elements together in its draft plans for addressing those issues.”

The South Coast Air Quality Management District, the Regional Advisory Council and the Regional Institute of Southern California are participating in the forum series.
