Two suspected gang members were charged Wednesday with gunning down a 67-year-old man in the bedroom of his Woodland Hills home during an apparent burglary attempt.

Devin Marcel Feagin, 19, and his 17-year-old companion face charges of murder, residential burglary and robbery in the shooting of Howard David King on Friday.

They are also charged with assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly pointing a gun at King’s wife, Faye, 68, and forcing her to lie on the kitchen floor.

The 17-year-old denied the charges against him Wednesday in Sylmar Juvenile Hall. A hearing is scheduled May 27 to determine whether he will be tried as an adult.

Feagin’s arraignment was postponed until May 11.

Because the killing occurred during another crime, the charges against Feagin carry a special circumstance allegation that could result in the death penalty if he is convicted, Deputy Dist. Atty. Edward Nison said.

Because he is a juvenile, the 17-year-old faces a lighter maximum sentence--25 years to life in prison.

The charges stem from a series of events that began about 8:40 p.m. Friday, when two burglars broke into King’s house in the 22900 block of Darien Street.

“It appears to be a random residential burglary that turned into a robbery and then turned into murder,” Nison said.

King’s body was found on the floor of his bedroom, said Detective Larry Dolley of the Los Angeles Police Department. He had been shot once in the chest.

Authorities said Wednesday that they had not determined who fired the shot that killed King. King’s wife did not witness the shooting, Nison said.

Feagin and his companion are being held without bail.
