Three Monterey Park police officers who survived a February shoot-out during a heroin sting operation were awarded medals Friday in a ceremony to dedicate a plaque to two federal drug agents killed in the incident.

The plaque, bearing the pictures of Drug Enforcement Administration Agents Paul Seema and George Montoya, was unveiled in the crowded Monterey Park City Council chambers. It will be on permanent display at the adjacent Police Department.

Detective Garry Wong and Reserve Sgt. Roger Murphy were presented with Medals of Valor, the highest award of the Police Department, while Sgt. William Risen was given a Distinguished Service Medal, the department’s third-highest honor.
