A sharp earthquake described as a “rolling jolt” shook part of Northern California, but there were no reports of damage. The earthquake hit at 5:32 a.m. with an estimated magnitude of 3.0, said Willis Jacobs, a geophysicist at the National Earthquake Center in Golden, Colo. He said the epicenter was between Salinas and Watsonville. Carol Jones, a newspaper librarian at the Salinas Californian, said she thought the temblor “was a truck going by but it kept going on.”
