Braswell Camp Geared Toward Youth Guidance

Share

Cleveland High Coach Bob Braswell has enlisted the help of Byron Scott of the Los Angeles Lakers and Earl Cureton of the Clippers and representatives of various professional organizations to run a summer camp in which basketball will receive second billing.

The camp will include basketball instruction and afternoon tournaments, but of more importance, Braswell says, are daily seminars covering such topics as drug and alcohol education, gang activity, and health and nutrition.

Braswell said he has lined up representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Los Angeles Police Department gang unit and members of the Cleveland High faculty, who will conduct study skills seminars.

Trevor Wilson, a former Cleveland player, and UCLA teammate Pooh Richardson will serve as speakers, Braswell said.

The camp is scheduled for two, five-day sessions. The first runs from June 27 to July 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cleveland; the second runs July 5-9. The camp is open to boys and girls aged 9 to 17. The fee is $200 per session but scholarships are available, Braswell said.
