A fire set in a North Hollywood metal fabricating plant by two masked men who overpowered a security guard caused $10,000 in damage, the city Fire Department reported Monday.

The fire was set at 10:30 p.m. Sunday at SDI Industries in the 6800 block of Vineland Avenue, Inspector Ed Reed said. The blaze was confined to one room, he said.

No arrests have been made, and a motive for the arson has not been determined, Reed said.

Reed said two men wearing masks entered the business, assaulted a guard and then handcuffed him while the fire was set. Firefighters were alerted by an alarm. The guard, whose name was not available, was not seriously injured.

Reed said it was the third time that SDI Industries has been damaged by fire this year. However, he said the first two fires were believed caused by electrical malfunctions and ruled accidental.

“There is no connection between the fires,” Reed said.
