Stoney Tries Jump From Occidental to Raiders

Share

Although the school does not offer athletic scholarships, Occidental College has two former players on the Los Angeles Raiders roster. Cornerback Todd Stoney was signed as a free agent earlier this month, joining running back Vance Mueller.

Stoney was one of approximately 75 players participating in the Raiders three-day mini-camp, which concluded last Thursday at the team’s El Segundo headquarters.

Although he was on the field with a cast of rookies, free agents and young veterans, only a handful of which will make the regular-season roster this fall, Stoney did have an opportunity to compete against at least one player of note--Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown.

“I’ve never gone against a guy who can burn it like that,” Stoney said. “The competition level is a big jump from Division III.”
