Former Memphis State teammates Marvin Alexander and Sylvester Gray, who lost their college eligibility for dealing with a sports agent, were among 12 underclassmen who declared themselves eligible for next month’s NBA draft.
The list includes five players who previously made their intentions known: Rex Chapman of Kentucky, Tito Horford of Miami, Jerome Lane of Pittsburgh, Charles Shackleford of North Carolina State and Rod Strickland of DePaul.
Another prominent name on the list is Lloyd Daniels, a former New York high school star who enrolled briefly at Nevada Las Vegas in 1987 but never played because he was arrested on a drug charge.
Other undergraduates applying for early entry to the NBA are Michael Jones of Auburn, Dwayne Lewis of Marshall, Hernan Montenegro of Louisiana State and Eddie Pope of Southern Mississippi.
