Darrell Waltrip broke the single-lap qualifying record at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway with a speed of 174.154 m.p.h. and took the pole for NASCAR’s winners-only race Sunday. The previous mark of 171.860 was set by Bobby Allison last October.
