The UCLA women’s softball team completed a two-game sweep of Cal State Fullerton Saturday in a National Collegiate Athletic Assn. Regional at Sunset Field, advancing to the College World Series for the second straight year.

The Bruins, ranked No. 1 in the nation all season, shut out the Titans, 2-0, Saturday, winning the best-of-three series without allowing a run.

UCLA (48-7) scored a 3-0 victory Friday in the first game of the series.

Lorraine Maynez, a freshman whose .355 average leads the Bruins, drove in UCLA’s first run and scored the second.

With one out in the third inning, Maynez hit a triple, driving in Shanna Flynn, who had singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Maynez then scored on Janice Parks’ sacrifice fly to right field.

Maynez, who walked in the first inning, doubled with two out in the fifth, but was stranded when Parks grounded out.

Samantha Ford (17-4) scattered six singles for the victory.

Janis Okerlund (14-5) took the loss for Fullerton (52-20).

The eight-team College World Series begins Wednesday in Sunnyvale, Calif.
