Brewers Sign Fullerton College Pitcher Kiefer
Mark Kiefer, a sophomore pitcher at Fullerton College, has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, the American League team announced Saturday.
Kiefer, a right-hander, was 9-1 at Fullerton this season and was an All-South Coast Conference first-team selection.
Kiefer, who was 4-5 as a freshman, was drafted by the Brewers in last year’s summer free agent draft. The Brewers would have lost their rights to him if they had not signed him before this year’s draft, which is June 1-3.
Kiefer also had been offered a scholarship to play for Arizona State next fall.
Kiefer (6-feet 4-inches, 185 pounds) played at Garden Grove High School. He will report June 10 to Milwaukee’s Helena, Mont., team in the Pioneer Rookie League.
Kiefer’s older brother, Steve, is an infielder for Milwaukee’s triple-A team in Denver.
